Supporting Your Child's Learning
School Calculation Policy
As with all areas of life, things grow, evolve and change. The way children learn at school differs greatly from when parents may have been taught. In order to help parents and caregivers a better understanding of how mathematical functions are taught in today's classes, and therefore help the children continue their learning at home, we have provided the School Calculation Policy.
This policy outlines the written calculation methods that will be used for all four number operations in all year groups within school. It is intended to bring consistency, continuity and progression as methods build upon each other. During their time at this school, children will be encouraged to see mathematics as both a written and spoken language. It is our aim that by the end of Year 6, children will be equipped with mental and written methods that they understand and can use correctly.
Helping with reading
Reading books aloud is one of the best ways you can help your child learn to read. This can be fun for you, too. Attached below are some documents for parents that will help you support your child with reading. We recently held a reading information event for parents, and these documents are intended to support that.
