Be Kind

Be Ready

Be Respectful

Physical Education

At Danesholme Academies, our PE curriculum is designed so that every child will 'Be Ready':

Ready to Learn — Through a broad and engaging PE curriculum, children develop essential physical skills and a strong understanding of how their bodies work. Lessons encourage curiosity about movement, health, and fitness, helping pupils build secure foundations in coordination, teamwork, and personal wellbeing.

Ready for Life — Our PE curriculum promotes resilience, confidence, and a positive attitude to physical activity. Children learn the value of effort, persistence, and healthy lifestyle choices that will support their physical and mental wellbeing throughout their lives.

Ready to Contribute — We nurture teamwork, cooperation, fairness, and respect. Whether working in pairs, groups, or teams, pupils learn to communicate effectively, support one another, and celebrate collective achievement both in school and within the wider community.

Ready to Succeed — Through progressive skill development and high expectations, every child is empowered to improve their physical abilities, understand competition positively, and take pride in their achievements. Pupils leave Danesholme prepared for the next stage of their education and inspired to stay active for life.

Implementation

At Danesholme Junior Academy, our PE curriculum is delivered through the Primary PE Planning scheme, providing a progressive and inclusive programme of physical education that inspires children to develop a lifelong love of sport, physical activity and healthy living. The curriculum is carefully sequenced from Year 1 to Year 6, enabling pupils to build on previously learned skills and apply them across a wide range of sports, games and physical activities. It promotes the development of physical competence, tactical understanding, teamwork, resilience and healthy lifestyles through engaging and challenging lessons.

Children are encouraged to develop not only their physical abilities but also their thinking, social and personal skills. Opportunities for competition, leadership, collaboration and self-reflection help pupils become confident, active learners who understand the importance of both physical and mental wellbeing. The curriculum is designed to ensure all children can participate, succeed and enjoy PE, regardless of their starting point.

Our PE curriculum reflects the Danesholme KRR values of Kind, Ready and Respectful. Children demonstrate kindness by supporting and encouraging others, readiness by showing determination, perseverance and a positive attitude towards learning new skills, and respect through fair play, teamwork and sportsmanship. These values are embedded throughout lessons, competitions and wider sporting opportunities.

We also make meaningful links to our local area, encouraging children to engage with community sporting events, clubs and healthy lifestyle opportunities available within Corby and the surrounding area. Through these experiences, pupils develop an understanding of how physical activity can positively contribute to their own wellbeing and strengthen connections within the local community.

By the time children leave Danesholme Junior Academy, they will have developed the knowledge, skills and confidence to participate in a wide range of physical activities, whilst understanding the importance of maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle.
