English - Writing
At Danesholme Academies, our curriculum is designed so that every child will 'Be Ready':
Ready to Learn — In Writing, we provide a rich and structured curriculum that builds strong foundational skills. Children are ready to write clearly, use new vocabulary, and express their ideas with growing confidence.
Ready for Life — Writing develops communication, resilience, and creativity. Children learn to organise their thoughts, reflect on their work, and use writing for real-life purposes.
Ready to Contribute — Writing encourages children to share opinions, listen to feedback, and value others’ ideas. They learn how writing can influence, inform, and connect with their community and the wider world.
Ready to Succeed — With clear progression in handwriting, spelling, grammar, and composition, children are supported to achieve well. High expectations and purposeful practice ensure they are ready for the next stage of their writing journey.
Our intent is to provide a robust writing curriculum, that enables our children to become confident writers and communicators, who go on to articulate their ideas effectively in the wider world. We know that children’s life experiences vary greatly, and their confidence and ability to write competently, can have a direct impact on their life choices. Acquiring and developing the skills to write fluently and legibly, impacts children’s progress across the entire curriculum therefore we recognise the necessity for a clear progression pathway throughout the academy.
Implementation
We follow the National Curriculum for English.
We use 'The Write Stuff', by Jane Considine, approach to teaching writing. Teaching units are carefully mapped, have a sharp focus on vocabulary, grammar and literary devices, whilst using a range of quality texts. We teach Kinetic letters to support handwriting.
